The Big Announcement: 3% Increase Effective July 1
Excitement reached its zenith when Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw communicated the news following the Cabinet meeting. The hike therefore takes the DA from 55% to 58% of the basic pay, and has been made effective from July 1, 2025. The months for which there has been a delay of payment shall bring with them sweet arrears, to be deposited soon with the October salaries. The Big Picture Inflation Causing The Hike
DA comes into existence not arbitrarily but from a discussion between what is theoretically right and the way real-life costs behave. Tied to the All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (CPI-IW), it is adjusted twice a year for price changes. 3% comes on top of January’s 2%, which itself followed 3% from July 2024. Economists knit brows for 4%, yet 3% stands firm and by this does not let other inflationary winds grow!
